Progress Report 27 June: All ready for the test!XDark should be hosting a test tomorrow, I'll send him the files tomorrow... and he, me and Virgil will be doing a pre-alpha test... It's a closed one, for the simple reason that it's too little to have a big open test... (not that there are much people reading this forum to know, I bet no one actually is... >_<)
Personal general opinions of the testers will be shown here in this topic in time...

Ugh... just, UGH... I got home yesterdayevening, all ready for the test.... And what do I see? No computer... It appears it broke AGAIN, it's gone to a store that can fix it.... but It'll have to be formatted, luckily I backed up the files... so don't worry about that, but it's an a bit older back-up from2 days ago, and yesterday-morning I gave it a good two hours for some system-improvements... My pc should be back today or tomorrow, I'll have to give it a bit of work, and then it's all done and ready for the test...
I apologise for this... this stuff always seems to happen to me :S

okay... there's good, and bad news... The bad news is that my pc won't be coming back untill after my vacation... The good news, the back-up I made, didn't seem to be that old... Actually, it's the latest version(can't remember I backed it up, but who cares...)
I copied the files to my other pc, but the bad part is... it's not mine, and it's rarely free... I hope you two will get online today, while this pc is still free... Which won't last very long...

AmazingFrom what I played, it went far and beyond anything I had imagined. My limitations as a coder really stood out as I saw the amazing ability, time, and effort that O-matic spent on this. I've learned a lot of things from O-matic in terms of Coding, but I'm not even going to ask the big secrets on this.
Preapplyed NPC movements flow with an almost cinimatic look, and the use of Swapmaps made it all the more enjoyable. Battles are made personal as you fight face to face with your opponent in a Manual Turnbased style where attacks and skills are brought out to look amazing. I've seen better sprite graphics, but I shouldn't judge, they are WAY better than anything I could do. Although the quest dialog slows down the pace of the game, he said he would make it faster.
Overall, I was amazed. Not to make him feel bad or anything, but this game this made me seriously think about just dropping Revenge. I have absolutly no ability to even get close to what this is. I tell you now friends, when this game is out, plan on it being one of the best, as the more work done on it, the better it will get. I wont give away any of the storyline though, you'll just have to wait to play it for yourself.
P.S O-matic, your going to have to teach me some of these procs that you used. Most of them I probably never heard of. I wonder if any of them would help me with TW 2?

Heh, thanks. I know it may have seemed that I've just been lazy the past year and that I hardly put any work into it... The first is pretty much true, but I do work on it occasionally... And when I do, I always try to do the best I can... The battle-system could still use some improving, though, but I am pretty happy with what I have now.
I know, the sprites don't really look very great, but I've never been very good at making them - especially side-viewed states, as you can see. >_>
The test went well, it was a bit buggy though, more buggy than I expected -- but now I know that this system I'm working on is stable enough to build a game on it, that's pretty much what I wanted to know -- but there's still plenty of room for improvements. Too bad Virgil was having trouble with his internet connection, so he couldn't stay till the end.
Thanks again for hosting the test! I've gotten alot of valuable information of the the limits of the game, and where those need to be pulled back or pushed forward.

Sure... just tell me what you need. There's not really much of a 'big secret' involved though, just a bit of creativity. BYOND is indeed very limited, but you can do alot with it if you just know what and when to use
what. Just tell me what you need, and I'll help.
For now, it's just going to be a bit of bug hunting untill I leave for vacation(5 July), and after that it's time to continue. For the first time in a year, I actually got the feeling that we're going somewhere...

Made some minor updates in the meanwhile:
- Virgil's request: Make healing-items usable outside of battle: Done
- Xdark's request: Speeding up text: Done. You can now hit spacebar, and all the text will display... then hit it again to delete it so you can go to the text tex 'dialogue' (or however you spell that -_-')
- Reported typos are fixed...
Xdark, would you mind sending me the suggestions.txt file to my mail? Because all the suggestions are hard to remember... I just hope you haven't deleted the files.

I read it...not that it probably makes you feel better. Lawl...I'm like the uninvited stalker (like they're EVER invited), that keeps popping up with whack-a-mole random-in-ity-ness...(?)

If you came back to life a few weeks earlier you could've joined the test... :S
Okay, here I am... back in Holland, still without my own pc... seeing BYOND 4.0 is released, not understanding anything of all the new stuff.... I need time.

Okay... day #2 since return... PC just got back, starting to understand 4.0 better and better with everytime I mess with it... it's going good. Though, there will be a few changes...
4.0 doesn't seem to be compatible with the onscreen-text, I have absolutely no idea why the text won't show.. The background does show, but the letters don't... But I don't think I'll even need the onscreen text with the possibilities of 4.0... Anyway, stay tuned... I should be posting a new progress report at the end of next week or so...
